Another nail biting final took place this week. This time it was the Junior Girls Squad who took home their first Munster Cup in the history of the competition. A frustrating first half saw a goal by Jasymn Foley denied by the half time whistle. Midleton rallied and minutes into the third quarter a great team passage of play saw the ball come to Sadhbh Holohan who found the backboard to give Midleton the lead. Villiers came back strong however, the Midleton defence held up until the final moments of the game when they were unlucky to concede a well worked equalizer. The game proceeded to a penalty shootout, the team rallying behind our keeper and five penalty takers. Villiers stepped up first however, having made critical saves throughout the game, keeper Maebh Deavy once again proved pivotal giving the home side the advantage. Goals from Tamsin Allen and captain Rachel Sweetnam steered Midleton towards the home stretch. The decider was left in the expert gloves of Deavy, who made an audacious save to seal the victory. Congratulations to the team & coach Ms Lynch on a well deserved and historic victory.
