Thank you to all students and staff who supported the Black History Month events which took place this week. On Monday we were honoured to be visited by Cllr Honore Kamegni, Deputy Lord Mayor of Cork. Cllr Kamegni has the distinction of being the first black representative elected to Cork City Council. He gave generously of his time, speaking to our form V and VI students as well as meeting the members of our EDI group. Cllr Kamegni was also the guest of honour at the unveiling of our 59 flags which are flying at the cricket pitch, celebrating the diverse community of Midleton College.
On Wednesday, our form I students enjoyed an African drumming workshop where they had the opportunity to play Senegalese djembe drums while learning about West African musical tradition.
On Thursday, the dining hall hosted African Food Fest. West African jollof rice and chicken proved to be a big hit with students and staff alike. Thank you to the EDI group and Art students who provided decorations and musical accompaniment, as well as the catering staff who did such a fantastic job!
