Our minor girls enjoyed a semi final win today v Gallen Community School, Ferbane, Co. Offaly. Played at Evergreen FC, Kilkenny we trailed 0-1 at the break after a pulsating and entertaining first half in which we had the better chances & had dominated overall.
An excellent second half performance saw us draw level through a fine strike from Rachel Sweetnam before a long range effort from Gallen CC which crashed in off the underside of the crossbar saw them lead 2-1 with 10 minutes remaining. A dogged and determined effort by all our girls in which we threw everything at the Gallen defence led to an incredible equaliser from star striker Luisa deep into injury time much to the delight of our fantastic travelling support.
With the momentum behind us we set about winning the game in extra time & despite having the better of the play , we found it difficult to create the clear cut chances we needed to win without ever being too strongly tested ourselves.
After a nail biting penalty shootout we eventually prevailed thanks to a brilliant penalty from our captain Gemma Daly.
Congratulations to all our girls; Manager, Colin Hynes and coaching staff, Cian Forde and Marie O’Leary, on a day in which our resolve was tested to the limits and we still found a way to prevail!
We now look forward to the National minor cup final on Wednesday April 24th where we will play Glenamaddy Community Colege from Co. Galway.
