Midleton College Horticulture students are really enjoying their trip to Ettlingen in Germany. They have been working with their German counterparts in the Ettlingen school garden, creating a “herb spiral” and researching and naming the different plants.
On Thursday, they travelled to the city of Strasbourg, for a tour of the European Parliament. Thanks to the contacts of Bishop Paul Colton, the students met with Deirdre Clune MEP on her very last day in the Parliament. They then took a boat tour of the beutiful medieval city, a world heritage site.
Friday was a day of foraging in the nearby meadows, learning about which plants are edible, (and which aren’t)! and then turning all the plants into wonderful salads
They have been having a great time staying with host families and immersing themselves in German life and culture.
Thanks to Ms Henry, Mary Walsh and Archdeacon Orr for leading the trip.
