Saturday’s Day 2 of the South Munster Schools Track & Field Championships at The Mardyke arena marked a day filled with accomplishment and spirited competition for Midleton College.
Leading the charge was Lily Fell, who showcased her athletic prowess in the intermediate girls high jump, claiming a silver medal with an impressive clearance of 1.50 meters. Her day didn’t end there; she followed up with a nail-biting 4th place finish in the long jump, missing the bronze by a mere 1 centimeter. Her efforts exemplified grace, power, and determination.
The sprint events brought more excitement to the track. Kyle Kamdem displayed his speed and finesse, finishing 4th in the senior boys 200m. Diego Rodriguez’s fiery performance secured him a 2nd place finish in his heat for the intermediate boys 200m, and although he missed a medal, his time stood as a testament to his talent. Jude Buckley’s tenacity shone through as he crossed the line 3rd in his heat for the intermediate 400m, a result that, despite falling short of a medal, reflected his drive and skill.
The day’s challenges didn’t deter Aaron Hull, who doubled his efforts in both the intermediate 200m and 400m, or Alannah Berkeley, who bravely tackled the grueling 1500m in the sweltering heat. Their performances, under trying conditions, were nothing short of remarkable, exemplifying the spirit and resilience that defines Midleton College’s athletes.
As the sun set on a day filled with adrenaline and applause, the team left the field knowing they had given their all, embodying the ethos of excellence that Midleton College strives for.
With eyes set on future triumphs, the athletes, coaches, and supporters look forward to even greater successes, celebrating not just the medals won but the character shown and the barriers broken.
