A Blooming Success: Form 1’s Participation in May Day for Sustainability

Kudos to the spirited Form 1 students and their dedicated teachers for embracing the May Day for Sustainability, a vital part of the @take1programme.

The day began with a vibrant tour of Midleton College’s flourishing school garden, guided by knowledgeable staff who shared insights into the wonders of growth and nature. But the excitement didn’t stop there.

With trowels in hand and smiles on faces, the students had the opportunity to exhibit their budding gardening skills by sowing their very own pumpkin seeds. Under the watchful care of their instructors, these seeds will spend the coming weeks thriving in the school’s polytunnel.

Soon, each student will have the thrilling chance to take their seedling home, nurturing it in their garden and witnessing the miracle of growth unfold. We encourage every young gardener to document their plant’s progress throughout the summer. The adventure doesn’t end there, though: a special prize awaits the grower of the most magnificent pumpkin from these seedlings!

May Day for Sustainability was not only a day of learning and exploration but a celebration of connection with the earth and each other. The joy and curiosity ignited in our students will surely continue to grow, just like their cherished pumpkin plants.

We look forward to witnessing their green thumbs in action and the beautiful pumpkins they will undoubtedly cultivate.
